A collection of works I completed when studying under the 2D Art Asset Creation module
When tasked to create a 2D scrolling scene based on a game description about space travel, the first thought I had in mind was making my art and environment sea-inspired. I felt it would be a unique take compared to the classic rockets and meteors I often find online.
In my head, I wanted the enemies to feel as though they don't belong, hence why the player and backgrounds are designed with a hand-drawn artstyle against the enemies' pixel art. It also helped push the theme of the player belonging to the environment, and with how mechanical and unnatural the enemies are, it provides an unspoken motivation for the player to attack them.
The rest of the animation simply unfolded afterwards.
When tasked to create a short, animated banner for a logo, I knew I wanted to do something related to the sky and birds, as they were what started me on my personal journey in art.
Originally, I wanted to have my logo float over a pond, reflecting against it as birds flew from its surface. However, due to dwindling time, I decide to go for a more simplified route; a bird's eye view of a clear pond reflecting the sky, with birds rippling the surface.
The first iteration of the animation was done of FireAlpaca as it was my preferred animating software for laying out ideas. Afterwards, the frames were exported and traced over on Adobe Photoshop, with added details like the flowing of water and bobbing logo being done last.
When tasked to create an advert for a Magic The Gathering and Final Fantasy collab, I first did a bit of research on the characters, finally settling on Sephiroth upon seeing the bird and sky imagery used in clips of the game.
I drew the background using the colour palette from the videos, while the position of the clouds were based on circular cloud formations. The eye of direction formed by them helped me position the rest of the elements in the collage, with a bit of editing on a Sephiroth figure and reflections to make everything blend together.
